Australia Gold maintained their 100 per cent record in the women's event as they beat France at the International Federation for Intellectual Impairment Sport (Inas) World Basketball Championships in Italy.

The Australian team were in ruthless form as they dispatched France 21-2 to claim their fourth consecutive victory of the tournament at the Palagarassini Stadium in Loano.

The result condemned France to their second defeat of the day as they were also beaten by Australia Green.

Australia Green, the country's second team in the women's competition, battled to a 13-11 success.

France have now lost all four of their round-robin matches in the women's event, played in the 3x3 format.

In the men's 5x5 tournament, Poland overcame Japan to clinch their first win of the event.

Poland beat their Japanese opponents by a narrow four-point margin as they emerged on the right side of a 62-58 scoreline in round robin group one.

France are the other team in the group and beat both Japan and Poland.

Action at the Championships is due to continue tomorrow.

The competition is scheduled to conclude on Saturday (November 25), when the medal matches will be played. 

Inas represents more than 300,000 athletes with intellectual impairments around the world.
