France continued their perfect start to the men's event at the International Federation for Intellectual Impairment Sport (Inas) World Basketball Championships as they beat Japan to claim their second win in Italy.

The French side, runners-up at the 2015 edition of the event, battled to a 73-57 success over their Japanese opponents at the Palagarassini Stadium in Loano.

The result strengthened France's position at the top of group one in the men's tournament.

Japan and Poland, the other two teams in the group, are yet to record a victory.

In the women's competition, played in the 3x3 format, Australia gold maintained their 100 per cent record with two wins.

Australia Gold, one of two teams from the country who are competing in the women's event, along with Australia Green, reigned supreme in their opening match yesterday and were in good form again today.

They overcame France 12-6 and beat their compatriots 13-1.

The women's round-robin stage features three teams.

Action at the Championships is due to continue tomorrow.

The competition is scheduled to conclude on Saturday (November 25), when the medal matches will be played. 

Inas represents more than 300,000 athletes with intellectual impairments around the world.
