All but one of the top five from day one managed to hang onto their spots despite having to compete in difficult conditions at the International Kiteboarding Association World Championships in Oman.

The pick of the riders was Great Britain's Oliver Bridge who, despite finishing third in his first race, went on to secure victory in five of his next six races, ensuring he remained top of the leaderboard.

Hiis younger brother Guy was unable to keep hold of his second spot from day one and slipped down to fourth, although he has still qualified for tomorrow’s finals stage.

There was also an intriguing contest in a different fleet between the two leading Frenchmen, Nico Parlier and Axel Mazella, as they tussled in breeze which quickly increased from 8 knots to 17-18 knots.

The competition between the pair was so close that photo-finishes decided the result on several occasions.

Parlier eventually secured overall victory with four wins to Mazella’s two.

These results helped Parlier and Mazella leapfrog Guy Bridge into second and third respectively.

Speaking after the day’s events, Parlier said “I like these breezier conditions.

"I think I really go best in this kind of weather.”

He added he was optimistic of overtaking leader Olly Bridge as the different conditions for the rest of the week will make it a “completely different regatta.”

Much like the men’s competition, the women’s event saw one rider dominate the day as 16-year-old US rider Daniela Moroz won ten of her 12 races to increase her lead at the top of the table to ten points.

However, there was movement beneath her with Alexia Fancelli of France jumping above Russian Elena Kalinina into second place.

Today’s events bring the qualification phase to an end with the finals stage set to start tomorrow.

The medal race will take place on Friday (November 24) with the top 10 kiteboarders taking part.
