Three-time Olympian John Shuster led his team to a 9-4 win over Heath McCormick's side today to force a third and final play-off game at the US Olympic Curling Team Trials in Nebraska.

Shuster and team-mates Tyler George, Matt Hamilton and John Landsteiner controlled the majority of the match and out-shot McCormick's team, 96 to 82 per cent, at the Baxter Arena in Omaha.

"When Ty has his game going, he's the best player in the country," Shuster said about George's 96 per cent shooting output.

"Not just the best third in the country, he's the best player in the country when he's got his swagger going."

McCormick and his team of Chris Plys, Korey Dropkin and Tom Howell had won yesterday's opening play-off match.

The two sides will battle it out in a winner-takes-all game tomorrow to determine the US men's curling team for next year's Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

"They played a really great first and second end and that really was the difference in the game, honestly," McCormick said.

"We got a little unlucky, I would like to say, a couple times, but we'll come out firing tomorrow."

Game two of the women’s best-of-three play-off series was also played today as Jamie Sinclair's team survived an extra-end thriller against Nina Roth to force a decider tomorrow.

Sinclair and her team of Alex Carlson, Vicky Persinger and Monica Walker defeated Roth, 7-6, with the final stone of the game.

"Well, it is nice to play tomorrow," Carlson said.

"We were pretty sure this was going all three games.

"We have split a lot of games with them throughout the years.

"It just isn't surprising to play all three."

Roth and team-mates Tabitha Peterson, Aileen Geving and Becca Hamilton won game one yesterday, which also went to an extra end.

"They were nervous too and missed some shots - we just didn't execute on top of that," Roth said of today’s game after shooting 71 per cent.
