Defending champion Chris Vos got his World Para Snowboard World Cup season off to the perfect start as he claimed victory in the banked slalom SB-LL1 event in Landgraaf.

The 19-year-old topped the standings in the race at the Dutch resort with a best time of 43.25sec.

Mike Schultz of the United States, a World Championships silver medallist, was second, while Reinhold Schett of Austria took home the bronze medal.

There was further success for the host nation as Lisa Bunschoten triumphed in the women's SB-LL2 event.

The double World Championships silver medallist finished clear of the rest of the field in 46.38.

Australia's Joany Badenhorst denied an Dutch one-two as she claimed silver ahead of Renske van Beek.

Reigning world champion Brenna Huckaby of the United States was also in superb form as she clocked a best time of 47.04 to win the women's SB-LL1 event.

French rival Cecile Hernandez-Cervellon was forced to settle for silver behind the American, while the bronze medal went to Canada's Michelle Salt.

The men's SB-LL2 event proved to be a thrilling affair as American Mike Shea edged world champion Matti Suur-Hamari of Finland.

Shea and Suur-Hamari both recorded a best of 40.96, with the American taking victory by virtue of his quicker second-best run.

The Finnish snowboarder earned silver and bronze was sealed by Narita Gurimu of Japan.

Around 100 athletes spanning 20 nations are present in Landgraaf for the second event of the campaign following a season opener in September in Treble Cone, New Zealand.
