Tatyana McFadden has been named as Americas’ Paralympic Athlete of the Month for October, following an online vote.

The American star was nominated for the monthly prize having won a seventh consecutive Chicago Marathon title.

It was her eighth victory in total at the race, while the 28-year-old confirmed her return to form after suffering from blood clots earlier in the year.

She was also able to close the gap at the top of the Marathon Majors World Series to Manuela Schar of Switzerland.

Schar returned to beat McFadden in this year’s New York City Marathon.

McFadden received 45 per cent of the public vote to win the October prize.

The seven-time Paralympic champion was followed by fellow American David Wagner, with the quad wheelchair tennis player receiving 36 per cent of the vote.

Brazilian sitting volleyball player Gilberto da Silva was also shortlisted for the honour.

The nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees from the continent.

Canada’s para-triathlete Stefan Daniel won the September award.
