Abdulla Sultan Alaryani ended the World Shooting Para Sport World Cup season in fine fashion as the United Arab Emirates’ athlete achieved a world record in Bangkok.

The Rio 2016 Paralympic silver medallist had triumphed in the men’s R7 50m rifle three positions event yesterday, but set his sights on further success today.

He was able to put himself in contention for gold in the R6 mixed 50m rifle prone SH1 competition, but faced the strong challenge of Australia’s Anton Zappelli.

The pair were the final two shooters at the close of the elimination phase, but Alaryani held a narrow advantage prior to the final shots of the competition.

Alaryani held his nerve to take the gold with a world record score of 249.0, bettering the 248.4 set by Veronika Vadovicova of Slovakia two months ago.

Zappelli equalled the previous record mark to take the silver, while John Joss III of the United States earned the bronze on 227.0.

South Korea’s Geunsoo Kim claimed a narrow victory in the R5 mixed 10m air rifle prone SH2 competition.

Kim finished the competition on a total of 253.3, following high scoring final shots of 10.3 and 10.7.

It proved narrowly enough to hold off Slovenia’s Francek Gorazd Tirsek, who took the silver medal on 253.0.

The home crowd were able to celebrate their final medal of a home World Cup, as Thailand’s Anuson Chaichamnan scored 231.0 to take bronze.

South Korea were denied another gold, after Chul Park was forced to settle for the silver medal in the P4 mixed 50m pistol SH1 event.

Gold was earned by Italy’s Marco Pusinich on a score of 215.4, with Park ending adrift on a tally of 212.1.

Italy’s Nadiia Fario secured bronze with a total of 192.6.

Minimum qualification standard points for next year's World Shooting Para Sport Championships in Cheongju in South Korea have been on offer at the event.

The completion of competition officially brought an end to the 2017 World Cup season.
