Pyeongchang 2018 has launched its official app for the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, providing sports fans around the world with the latest news and information on the Games.

The app, which is available in five languages – South Korean, Chinese, English, French and Japanese - will be on "Olympic Torch Relay Mode" until January 28.

Users will be able to get all the latest news and route information, and also have the opportunity to watch the relay live and "feel part of the city celebrations".

From January 29, just 12 days before the Winter Olympics begin, the app will become a one-stop shop for everything Pyeongchang 2018.

Users will be able to access live results, real-time Games news, and all the competition schedule information.

They will also be able to read about the athletes and medal contenders, experience 360 degree venue shots and follow the progress of their nations on the medal table.

For those planning to be at the event in person, there will be useful tips on transport and accommodation in the local area in an attempt to make the Games experience as easy and accessible as possible.

There will also be a host of exciting activities and promotions for all sports fans to enjoy.

The app can be downloaded now from the Google Play Store and iOS App Store.

"PyeongChang 2018 will be the most technologically advanced Games ever, so it is very important that we have an interesting and easy-to-use app for all Olympic and Paralympic fans to help them feel connected to the Games wherever they may be," Pyeongchang 2018 President Lee Hee-beom said.

"The smart phone is increasingly becoming the main device for people accessing the internet globally.

"We want to ensure that we reach as many of those sports fans and mobile phone users as possible with our new application.

"We hope that they will enjoy following the journey of the Torch over the next 93 days as it makes its way to the Pyeongchang Olympic Plaza, and then kick into Games mode with us and share the passion and excitement that will play out on the snow and ice."

The official Games website, which can be accessed here, has also been given a revamp to mark the milestone.

It is claimed the new look and feel of the website will "bring the Games to life", giving users all the latest information on the Olympic Torch Relay, which began its 101-day journey at Incheon on November 1, and serving as their go-to guide all the way through to the end of the Winter Paralympics.

The Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics are scheduled to take place from February 9 to 25.

They will be followed by the Paralympics, which are due to be held from March 8 to 18.

South Korean officials have recently claimed that construction of the venues is 99.7 per cent complete.
