France’s Thomas Rouxel and Lucas Corvee booked their places in the men’s singles main draw at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) French Open after coming through qualifying.

Rouxel emerged as a 21-12, 23-21 winner against Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu in his first tie of the day at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin in Paris in this BWF Superseries event. 

It set up a clash against Germany’s Kai Schaefer, with Rouxel battling to a 24-22, 21-19 straight games win.

He will now face China’s Qiao Bin in the first round, while his compatriot Corvee will take on Hong Kong’s Hu Yun.

It followed the Frenchman earning a straight games win over Scotland’s Kieran Merrilees in his first qualifier, before beating Japan’s Takuma Ueda 21-13, 17-21, 21-17.

France’s Delphine Lansac advanced to the first round of the women’s draw, after winning a qualifier 17-21, 21-17, 21-12 against Canada’s Michelle Li.

She will now face Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi, the tournament fifth seed.

Denmark’s Sofie Holmboe Dahl also came from behind to beat England’s Chloe Birch 12-21, 21-16, 21-16, while Indonesia’s Dinar Dyah Ayustine overcame South Korea’s Kim Hyo Min 21-19, 9-21, 21-13.

Holmboe Dahl is due to clash with Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong tomorrow, while Ayustine faces Japan’s Saena Kawakami.

The final qualifying spot was earned by Natalia Perminova, the Russian overcoming Germany’s Yvonne Li 21-18, 21-10. 

Perminova is now set to meet China’s Chen Yufei in the first round.
