The duo combined to good effect to win the 10 metres air pistol mixed team competition at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range.

Sidhu and Rai finished with a total of 483.4 points to secure the gold, with France’s Florian Fouquet and Celine Goberville ending as the silver medallists on 481.1 as the last pairing to be eliminated.

Bronze was awarded to China’s Yang Wei and Cai Xiaoxue, after they finished on 418.2.

Their team-mates Song Buhan and Wu Mingyang would emerge as the winners of the 10m air rifle mixed team event later in the day.

The 20-year-olds achieved a total score of 499.8 points in the final to clinch the victory.

The Chinese pair edged out Serbian shooters Milutin Stefanovic and Andrea Arsovic, as they managed a tally of 496.8.

Sui Gengcheng and Shi Mengyao completed the podium positions, with the second Chinese pairing having scored 430.3 points.

Spain’s Antonio Bailon and Beatriz Martinez made up for their disappointment in missing out on the inaugural mixed team trap world title last month by earning World Cup Final honours.

The duo, who secured a silver medal at the World Championships in Moscow, hit 42 of the 50 targets in the final to triumph.

Italy’s Giovanni Pellielo and Jessica Rossi were second with 40 hits from their 50 shots, while the United States’ Derek Haldeman and Ashley Carroll managed 31 hits of 40 targets for bronze.

It was the first time that three mixed competitions have been held at the World Cup Final.

The mixed events were added to shooting’s Olympic line-up for Tokyo 2020 in order to meet the International Olympic Committee's demands for gender equality.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow with the men’s 10m air rifle, women’s 10m air pistol and skeet action taking place.
