Dutchman Jur Vrieling produced a superb performance to win the second-leg of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) World Cup Jumping Western European League season in Helsinki today.

The Olympic team silver medallist held his nerve despite performing last on Belgian 11-year-old VDL Glasgow v. Merelsnest to secure the fastest time in a nine rider jump-off at Scandic Park.

The competition was held as part of the final day of the Helsinki International Horse Show.

Vrieling completed the course in 36.85sec.

This proved enough for a comfortable victory over Swedish rival Henrik von Eckermann.

Von Eckermann rode Mary Lou 194 to second place in 38.41.

Marlon Modono Zanotelli of Brazil finished third on Celena VDL in 38.60.

"This is now my second win in the World Cup and I have to say I’m a bit surprised because I didn’t really expected to be first today," Vrieling said.

"I tried to get into top three and today it worked out in the best way possible.

"I’m really happy to have such great horses, Glasgow has super mentality and he is really a championship horse, maybe even the best horse I have ever had."

American Andy Kocher claimed victory at the FEI World Cup North American League in Del Mar.

He rode Navalo de Poheton to victory at the Del Mar Horse Park in 37.45.

Eric Navet of France followed closely behind in 37.56 on Catypso while Canadian Chris Pratt placed third on Concorde.

They completed the course in 37.75.
