Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon knocked-out the third seed Sung Ji-Hyun today at the quarter-final stage of the Badminton World Federation Denmark Open in Odense.

The 22-year-old was the women's singles world champion in 2013 but was unseeded for this week's event at the Odense Sports Park.

She produced a superb display to dispatch Sung in two straight sets 21-13, 21-18.

Top seed Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan also progressed after battling past Kim Hyo-min of South Korea in three tough sets.

The world number one eventually triumphed 20-22, 21-16, 21-9 in a dual lasting 1:08 minutes.

Fourth seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan also powered past India's Saina Nehwal 21-10, 21-13.

South Korea enjoyed better fortunes in the corresponding men's singles as both Son Wan-ho and Lee Hyun-il progressed with ease.

Lee beat England's Rajiv Ouseph 24-22, 21-6.

Top seed Son overcame H.S. Prannoy of India 21-13, 21-18.
