Top seeds Pattarasuda Chaiwan and Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand eased into the second round of the women's and men's singles events, respectively, at the Badminton World Federation World Junior Championships in Yogyakarta.

The Thai duo were both in ominous form on the opening day of action at the GOR Among Rogo Arena.

Chaiwan, the current world number 128, cruised into round two with a 21-14, 21-12 win over Dutch opponent Debora Jille.

Her opponent in the next round tomorrow will be Australian player Sasha Lim.

Vitidsarn, who won the India Junior International Grand Prix tournament last month, dropped just 14 points on his way to a commanding 21-6, 21-8 victory against Poland's Robert Cybulski.

The 16-year-old took just 17 minutes to set up a meeting with China's Gu Junfeng.

Vitidsarn was joined in round two by second seed Lakshya Sen of India, who made light work of Hungary's Mate Balint with a comfortable 21-15, 21-5 success.

Sen will take on Gatjra Cupu of Indonesia tomorrow.

Singapore's Yeo Jia Min, the second seed in the women's singles competition, also safely progressed as she beat Lin Jhih Yun of Chinese Taipei 21-14, 21-12.

Yeo is scheduled to go up against Anastasiia Shapovalova of Russia in the second round.

Malaysia's Goh Jin Wei, the 2015 women's singles champion, was among the other winners as she dispatched South Africa's Megan de Beer 21-6, 21-4 in just 15 minutes.

Action is taking place in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles tournaments following the conclusion of the mixed team competition yesterday, where China beat Malaysia to retain their title.
