A new free mobile application has been launched by the International Judo Federation (IJF) to showcase the sport.

The app, which features more than 36,000 contest videos, has been made available by the worldwide governing body as part of an attempt to showcase the "global sport, educational tool and its champions like never before".

It includes action from numerous judo competitions at events such as the Commonwealth Games, IJF World Tour and Continental Championships.

The International Blind Sports Federation's visually impaired judo events are also featured on the app, which is available on Google Play for Android and on the Apple Store for apple devices.

The app allows users to relive their favourite moments from previous IJF events and competitions.

It features full length bouts and clips and highlights of other matches.

Users can also search for their favourite athlete, with a section split into weight categories to allow for easier navigation.

There is a section reserved for videos from European Judo Union competitions, such as the European Championships, club team and open events.

Judo fans can watch full videos as well as slow-motion playback and frame by frame.

"You will be able to retrieve latest competitions and navigate through enriched videos allowing you to find key moments of the fight fast and in an intuitive way without the need to go through an entire contest or event," the IJF said.

"You will also easily find your favourite athletes and Olympic and world champions in a heartbeat."
