China successfully defended their mixed team title with a 3-1 victory over Malaysia at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Junior Championships in Yogyakarta.

The Chinese team retained their crown with another assured display to seal their 12th Suhandinata Cup at the GOR Among Rogo Arena.

Man Wei Chong and Tan Koong Le had given Malaysia the lead as they overcame Fan Qiuyue and Li Wenmei 21-12, 9-21, 21-17 in the mixed doubles encounter.

It proved to be a fleeting moment of joy for the Malaysian side as China won the next three matches to win the tournament.

Zhengze Gao levelled the final after beating Jun Hao Leong 21-14, 21-18 before Fan and Wang Chang prevailed in the men's doubles, ousting  Chang Yee Jun and Ng Eng Cheong 21-19, 21-17 to turn the match on its head.

It was then left to Han Yue to wrap up another Chinese triumph and she duly obliged with a battling 21-16, 20-22, 21-8 success in the fourth rubber of the contest.

"I was slightly concerned after losing in the mixed doubles but we have great teamwork and the other players did well," China head coach Wang Wei said after securing his first Suhandinata Cup.

"Malaysia was strong in singles but we did a lot of training in those events which helped us win both of them today."

The tournament in the Indonesian city is due to resume on Monday (October 16) with the start of the BWF World Junior Championships in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
