India thrashed hosts Bangladesh 7-0 to make it two wins from two at the men's Asia Hockey Cup.

The home side slipped to a second defeat in Pool A as they were outclassed at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in capital city Dhaka.

Harmanpreet Singh scored twice in the rout, with Gurjant Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Lalit Upadhyay, Amit Rohidas and Ramandeep Singh also registering for the eight-time Olympic champions.

It means India sit top of the pool.

"Bangladesh were good with their penalty corner defending and saved quite a few," said India captain Manpreet Singh.

"For us, we just wanted to focus on our game plan and make sure we got a good start. 

"Our forward line played well and created quite a few opportunities in the circle and that's a big positive from this match."

Pakistan, who also beat Bangladesh 7-0 in their first game, had to settle for a draw today against Japan.

The game finished 2-2 as the Japanese improved following their opening 5-1 defeat to the Indians.

Muhammad Arslan Qadir opened the scoring for Pakistan before Japan turned the game around with strikes from Kenta Tanaka and Heita Yoshihara.

A 50th minute goal from Muhammad Umar Bhutta ensured that the game would finish all square.

Pool B will resume tomorrow with China playing Oman and South Korea meeting Malaysia.

The men's and women's Oceania Cup tournaments in Sydney's Olympic Park in Australia will also return to action following a rest day today.
