Defending champions China booked their place in the final of the mixed team event alongside Malaysia at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Junior Championships in Yogyakarta.

The Chinese team have moved to within one win of retaining the Suhandinata Cup with a 3-1 win over Japan at the GOR Among Rogo Arena.

Fan Qiuyue and Li Wenmei scored China's first point of the tie in the mixed doubles rubber, defeating Takuma Obayashi and Natsu Saito 21-13, 21-13.

Kodai Naraoka instantly replied for Japan, beating Yupeng Bai of China 21-13, 21-8 in the men's singles.

China once again gained control when Fan and Wang Chang combined to beat Mahiro Kaneko and Yunosuke Kubota 21-15, 21-12.

The decisive blow was struck in the fourth rubber as Han Yue wrapped up the 3-1 success for China by beating Moto Hayashi 21-11, 21-12.

Awaiting them in the final will be the Malaysians after they shocked top seeds South Korea 3-0.

Eng Cheong Ng and Sueh Jeou Tan provided Malaysia's first point as they brushed aside Min Jeong and Seong Jae Kim 21-9, 21-12 in the mixed doubles.

Jun Hao Leong doubled his country's advantage in the men's singles.

He overcame Dong Ju Ki 21-6, 21-19.

Victory was then guaranteed when Goh Jin Wei wrapped up the third and decisive point by beating Se Young An 21-16, 21-19 in the women's singles.
