Cameroon are set to hold a training camp in Warwick next year as they build-up to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Officials from Cameroon visited training facilities and accommodation located in the town in southeast Queensland.

It coincided with their participation for the Gold Coast 2018 Chef de Mission seminar, which officially concluded yesterday.

Cameroon’s Chef de Mission Victor Agbor Nso was joined by team manager Alphonse Benoit Essama on the site visit, with the pair greeted by members of the South Downs Council.

Their stay in the town next year was confirmed after the visit.

"We had correspondence from Southern Downs and the council would reply to our correspondence straight away,” Nso said, according to the Warwick Daily News.

"The temperature in Warwick is near the temperature in Cameroon and it is not as busy in Warwick.”

It is expected that the country’s delegation will spend nearly two weeks in Warwick prior to the Games.

They will eventually move in to the Gold Coast 2018 Athletes’ Village, prior to the start of the Opening Ceremony on April 4.

Around 61 athletes and 26 officials are reportedly expected to visit the town.

"I would encourage the people on the Southern Downs to embrace the Cameroon team when they are in the area and adopt them as our second sons and daughters when they compete during the Commonwealth Games,” said Tracy Dobie, Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor.

"We hope to use this visit as a chance to encourage business relationships with Cameroon.”

Cameroon will hope the training facilities will help them prepare effectively and surpass the medal tally they achieved at Glasgow 2014.

They finished the Games with one gold, three silver and three bronze medals, placing them 17th on the final table.

Marie Fegue delivered their sole gold medal, triumphing in the women’s 69 kilogram weightlifting event.
