Jürgen Kyas has been re-elected as the President of the German Boxing Association (DBV).

The 72-year-old, who has led the DBV since June 2009, won 482 votes in the election against the former vice-president Uwe Hamann.

Kyas recently served as President of the Local Organising Committee for the 2017 International Boxing Association (AIBA) World Championships in Hamburg.

Raiko Morales was elected as the new vice-president, replacing Hamann.

Erich Dreke, Heinz-Günter Deuster, Thomas Klekamp, Lothar Heine and Michael Müller complete the Managing Board of the DBV.

Franco Falcinelli, the President of the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC), congratulated Kyas on his victory.

"On behalf of the EUBC and myself, I would like to express my sincere congratulations for your brilliant electoral success which awards your great commitment, your capacity  and your long dedication in favour of the management, promotion and organisation of German and international Olympic boxing," said the Italian.

Falcinelli was officially appointed Acting Interim President of AIBA yesterday following the suspension of C K Wu.

Wu was suspended by the AIBA Disciplinary Commission on Tuesday (October 10).

It followed a complaint from 11 members of the AIBA Executive Committee, led by Falcinelli and including Kyas, who have opposed Wu since a meeting in Moscow in July.

Wu was allegedly in breach of several disciplinary codes and statutes.

They included his attempt to dismiss opponents on the AIBA Executive Commission, taking commercial decisions without approval, misleading the media and National Federations about the organisation's finances and blocking an attempt to organise a vote of no confidence against him.

Wu, however, has appealed to the Swiss District Court in Lausanne, where AIBA are based.

The 70-year-old Taiwanese claims the AIBA Disciplinary Commission do not have the power to suspend him and only the Congress can take such action.

Wu, a member of the International Olympic Committee Executive Board, has predicted that the Court will overturn his suspension.
