FIFA has suspended the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) with immediate effect for "undue third-party interference", it was announced today.

The decision was taken by the Bureau of FIFA's ruling Council as the PFF's offices in Karachi are still in the control of a "court-appointed administrator".

World football's governing body said the suspension will be lifted as soon as soon as access to the accounts and offices is returned to the PFF, plagued with governance issues in recent years under current President Faisal Saleh Hayat.

Pakistan will now not be able to participate in international competitions as a result of the move from FIFA.

The country has not played a full international since a 0-0 draw with Yemen in a World Cup qualifier back in March 2015.

They have also not been unable to send teams to major tournaments and has also failed to stage top-flight domestic competition.

Pakistan has never qualified for the World Cup.

"Following its suspension, the PFF loses all its membership rights as defined in article 13 of the FIFA Statutes," FIFA said in a statement.

"The PFF representative and club teams are no longer entitled to take part in international competitions until the suspension is lifted."

FIFA had warned they were considering suspending the PFF back in July if the National Federation was not handed back its headquarters and accounts amid an ongoing dispute with a rival body in the country, led by Arshad Lodhi.

The row between the two organisations has plunged Pakistani football into chaos and ended up in the legal courts.

It was then decided that the courts would take control of the PFF's offices and accounts until the crisis was resolved.

FIFA's Member Associations Committee had said in July that the PFF would be given a two-year extension to "revise the PFF statutes and organise elections" in order to address the issues within the PFF.

They warned, however, that this would be "conditional on the strict implementation of an action plan and a regular reporting mechanism".

It is not yet known whether the suspension will have any affect on Hayat's roles in football.

Hayat is a member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Committee and chairman of the body's Legal Committee.
