The International Paralympic Committee moved the event, which is taking place alongside the World Para Powerlifting Championships, from September and October to November and December following the devastating earthquake in the Mexican capital.

More than 225 people were killed as a result of the earthquake, which measured 7.1 on the Richter magnitude scale and was epicentred 55 kilometres south of the city of Puebla.

It is thought around 6,000 people were injured.

Following the confirmation of the switch earlier this month, the worldwide governing body gave all competing nations a deadline of today to register their teams for the Championships.

It allowed countries to make any alterations to the initial squads who were due to compete at the event, originally scheduled for September 30 to October 6 as part of a Para-sport festival.

US Paralympics will send the same 22-person team for the rescheduled competition, which is now set to take place from November 27 to December 7.

Their squad is headlined by 25-year-old star Jessica Long, a winner of 23 Paralympic medals, 13 of which are gold.

Long also has 38 World Championships medals to her name and will bid to defend her titles in the S8 100 metres butterfly, 100m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and 400m freestyle.

Six-time Paralympic medallist Rebecca Meyers is also on the team, along with six other female Paralympians: Hannah Aspden, McKenzie Coan, McClain Hermes, Sophia Herzog, Natalie Sims and Colleen Young.

Tucker Dupree will make his fifth World Championships appearance as part of the men's squad in the Mexican city.

Tharon Drake, Tye Dutcher, Robert Griswold and Curtis Lovejoy, who have all represented the US at the Paralympics, have also been named.
