The Netherlands’ Justin van Tergouw and compatriot Wessel Nijman both reached the boys’ youth final as action begun today at the 2017 World Darts Federation (WDF) World Cup in Japanese city Kobe.

Van Tergouw beat Sweden’s Oskar Wågberg 4-1 in the quarter-finals before defeating the Republic of Ireland’s Killian Heffernan 5-1 in the semi-finals at the Kobe International Exhibition Hall.

Nijman, meanwhile, started the day with a 4-1 win over Republic of Ireland’s Keane Barry prior to overcoming Iran’s Amirali M Goodarzi 5-2.

Action in Kobe is due to continue tomorrow with the men’s singles and girls’ singles competitions taking centre stage.

Players from England, Wales and Scotland are absent from the World Cup on the 40th anniversary of the event being established by the WDF for "budgetary reasons".

The three nations, who have been dominant since the first of the biennial WDF World Cups was held in London in 1977, cancelled plans to travel out to join the 33 other countries who are contesting the 21st version.

Sijmon Timmers, the WDF secretary general, told insidethegames: "I can confirm that England, Wales and Scotland will not participate in the World Cup 2017 in Kobe, Japan."
