Germany’s Caroline Trompeter and the Czech Republic’s Vavrinec Hradilek claimed extreme kayak gold medals as the Canoe Slalom World Championships concluded in Pau.

The extreme K1 competitions were being contested for the first time at the Championships, having been part of the World Cup programme since 2016.

Both Trompeter and Hradilek impressed at the French course, as they progressed to the finals of both the women’s and men’s events.

Trompeter won each race during her run to the final and maintained her 100 per cent record to seal the gold.

She finished clear of Brazil’s Ana Satila, who was forced to settle for the silver medal in the discipline.

The Czech Republic’s Amalie Hilgertova claimed the bronze, with Dutch kayaker Martina Wegman missing out on a medal after ending last of the four finalists.

Hradilek enjoyed comfortable progression through the rounds of men’s competitions, winning each of his heats.

The Czech kayaker delivered under pressure in the final to take the title.

He would hold off the challenge of home favourite Boris Neveu, with the Frenchman settling for the silver medal.

The podium was completed by New Zealand’s Mike Dawson, with Czech athlete Vit Prindis missing out on the medals by placing fourth.
