Denmark have claimed the wheelchair rugby gold medal at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto.

The Danes overcame Great Britain 23-18 in the final at the Mattamy Athletics Centre in the Canadian city.

Earlier in the day, Denmark claimed a 32-20 win over the United States while Britain defeated Australia 26-19 to book their places in the final.

The Americans went on to seal third place by beating Australia 23-18.

While wheelchair rugby was today's sole medal event, there were a number of swimming heats today at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.

Australia's Sarah Watson was in emphatic form as she won two heats and finished second in a third.

She first won the women's ISD 50 metres freestyle heat in 34.59sec before touching the wall first in the women's ISD 50m backstroke in 39.72.

Watson then booked her place in the women's ISD 50m breaststroke final after coming second in her heat in 46.69.

Today also saw the start of the wheelchair basketball competition at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.

The US were in emphatic form and claimed two comfortable victories in their opening two matches.

They first brushed aside The Netherlands 35-19 before thrashing Canada 33-5 later on.

Canada responded by beating France 16-5 

Tomorrow is due to mark the penultimate day of competition with medals to be awarded in archery and swimming.
