Six men's softball teams have qualified for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games following their performance at the 2017 Pan American Championship in the Dominican Republic's capital Santo Domingo.

The Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico and Venezuela all clinched their spot in next year's regional Games, which are scheduled to take place in Barranquilla from July 20 to August 3.

Colombia will also compete as hosts. 

Venezuela triumphed at the Pan American Championships after beating Argentina 9-2.

The United States finished third.

The Pan American Championship qualifies six teams to Barranquilla 2018, with one of the spots designated to the English Caribbean area and the other five to the best qualified teams from the region.

The Central American and Caribbean Games is a multi-sport event that has been held every four years since 1926.

It is considered the oldest regional multi-sport event in the world and is coordinated by the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization.

The last edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games took place in 2014 in Mexican state Veracruz.

Venezuela won the gold medal in the men’s softball tournament, while Mexico and Cuba were the silver and bronze medallists respectively.
