Rio 2016 gold medallist Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli secured shot put gold at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Para Games in Kuala Lumpur.

The Malaysian was the clear favourite for the T20 shot put gold and was seeking to secure a fourth straight title at the biennial Games.

He achieved the feat by setting a Games record 16.81 metres, bettering his throw of 15.69m from the 2014 edition of the event.

The podium was rounded off by Malaysian Aliff Awi and Thailand’s Sanepoot Boonkong.

"I gave 100 per cent concentration and my best in the shot put," said Ziyad Zolkefli.

"I think clearing a distance of 16.81m was a good effort but I am sure I can do much better in the future."

Malaysia’s Muhammad Hafiz Abu Bakar emerged as the winner of the F36/37 discus competition after achieving a throw of 33.51m.

He finished in front of team-mate Shamli Waidi and Indonesia’s Ahmad Fauzi, the silver and bronze medallists respectively.

Doriah Paolus added another gold for the host nation by triumphing in the F42/44 javelin with a throw of 31.1m.

Indonesia’s Warmia Marto and Vietnam's Thi Thu Thuan finished second and third.

Malaysian cyclists proved the dominant force of the day, securing six of the seven gold medals on offer in the road races.

Azlia Syafinaz Zais with her pilot Aidillina Adilla J Sam won the women’s tandem race and Lim Tao Keong triumphed in the H1 to H5 competition,

There were also gold medals for C4 racer Najib Turano, C5 cyclist Zuhairie Ahmad Tarmizi and Mohamad Syazwan Roshdi, who won the C1-3 competition.

Aiman Asyraff Ahmad Bajuri won the men’s visually impaired race.
