Seven World Triathlon Series (WTS) events will feature on the 2018 International Triathlon Union (ITU) calendar, along with the Grand Final.

The ITU confirmed the full calendar at the governing body’s Annual Congress in Rotterdam, which included confirmation of 18 World Cup, three Paratriathlon World Series and six Paratriathlon World Cup events.

United Arab Emirates city Abu Dhabi will again host the opening event of the WTS calendar with action set to take place on March 3, before the island of Bermuda makes its debut on April 21.

Yokohama in Japan and Leeds in England will stage the next competitions on May 12 and June 10, before racing then heads to Hamburg in Germany.

The Hamburg leg of the competition will also feature the Mixed Relays World Championships, with thousands of spectators expected to attend the event from July 14 to 15.

Canada will host the next two competitions, with Edmonton welcoming triathletes from July 28 to 29, before Montreal stages action from August 25 to 26.

The Grand Final will then be held in Gold Coast, with the Australian Commonwealth Games host also poised to host the junior, under-23 and Paratriathlon World Championships from September 12 to 16.

A revamped World Cup calendar will begin in Cape Town in South Africa in February, with the second-tier series then concluding in Miyazaki in Japan during November.

The governing body said the World Cup circuit will feature semi-finals and finals, sprint and Olympic events.

"I am thrilled with the new calendar, it's a perfect mix between new additions to our portfolio of events, classic races across the world and a lot of multi-sport and multi-day events," said Marisol Casado, the ITU President.

"Our sport keeps growing, evolving and exploring new territories.

"We maintain the equal prize money for male and female athletes in all ITU events.

"Our officials and Organising Committees never stop learning and I am sure that we will deliver an excellent season."

The ITU are also working with WTS events and National Federations on the creation of the inaugural Mixed Team Relay Series.

It is expected the events will be announced in the coming weeks.

The World Paratriathlon Series will begin in Yokohama, with the event coinciding with the WTS competition in the Japanese city.

It will then head to Iseo in Italy for the first time for competition between July 27 and 29, before Edmonton brings the Series to a close on June 30.

Australia will stage the first Paratriathlon World Cup event of 2018, with Davenport staging the circuit opener on February 17.

The season will conclude in Sarasota, with the American venue hosting from October 13 to 14.
