Anas Zul Amirul Sidi claimed one of three swimming gold medals for the host nation as competition continued at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Para Games in Kuala Lumpur.

The Malaysian swimmer impressed in front of a home crowd at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil.

He completed the men’s S14 100 metres freestyle event in a Games record time of 59.79 seconds, with Benson Seng of Singapore and Malaysia's Zadrian Chan two seconds back to complete the podium.

“It has been a great moment for me today by winning the gold and also setting a Games record,” said Anas.

“This came as a surprise.

“My father has been a great inspiration to me and I dedicate this gold to him.”

Yoong Chung Wei secured Malaysia’s second swimming gold by winning the men’s S14 50m butterfly event, while Jamery Siga prevailed in the S5 200m freestyle competition.

Indonesian success continued in the pool, with Aris Wibawa touching home fastest in the men’s S7 100m breaststroke.

Team-mates Guntur and Menaser Meriba Num sealed victories in the men’s 100m breaststroke for the SB8 and S12 classes.

On the athletics track, Indonesia’s Putri Aulia was crowned the winner of the women’s 400m T13 race.

The visually impaired runner finished in a time of 1min 3.13sec to take the gold, with Malaysia’s Felicia Mikat winning the silver.

Aulia’s fellow Indonesian Ni Made Arianti completed the podium places.

Indonesia enjoyed further success in the field events, as Warmia Marto Samidi won the women’s F42/43/44 discus throw by achieving a distance of 26.66 metres.

Alan Sastra replicated the achievement in the men’s F57 discus, as the Indonesian threw 41.95m.

There was also history for Timor Leste, as Teofilo Preitas emerged as the winner of the men’s T38 800m.

The result saw Timor Leste pick up their maiden athletics gold medal at the ASEAN Para Games.
