Rio 2016 Olympian Caroline Marton is one of the candidates for Australian Taekwondo's Board of Directors.

The 33-year-old competed in the Brazilian city in the under-57 kilograms division, where she was knocked out in the round-of-16.

She won the Pacific Games gold medal at under-53kg in Papua New Guinea's capital Port Moresby in 2015.

Her younger sister is Carmen Marton, who won the lightweight world title in 2013.

"I am passionate about taekwondo and seeing Australia as a top fighting country," Caroline Marton said.

"I want every Australian to know what taekwondo is and see martial arts as just as important as learning swimming.

"I want taekwondo to be seen by Australians as a life skill and a complementary sport."

A vote on who joins the Executive Board will be made at the governing body's Annual General Meeting on October 7.

Raffaele Di Renzo, Graeme Hartnett, Nontis Kalaitzis, Jean Kfoury, Ali Khalil, Maher Magableh and Danny Mikatis are also standing.
