Skeleton world champion Jacqueline Lölling has broken the standard start time for the German World Cup team for the first time.

After winning gold at the Junior World Championships and a silver medal at the World Championships in 2015, the German coaches selected Lölling for the senior World Cup team for her first season in 2015-2016.

This happened despite her missing out on the standard start time, normally a criteria which needs to be met.

She finished second overall at the 2016 World Cup, securing her starting place on the team for the following season.

The 22-year-old then went on to win the World Championships, European Championships and the overall World Cup title during a dominant 2017.

At a central German Bobsleigh, Luge, and Skeleton Federation performance test, Lölling finally broke the required start time of 5.00sec, recording a time of 4.99.

Lölling will be a major medal hope for Germany at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games in February, with the start time success an ominous sign for her rivals.

The starting test in Oberhof was won by Sophia Griebel for the women and Felix Keisinger for the men.

Griebel, who finished seventh at the 2016 World Championships, has returned to the sport after an 18-month break due to injury.

The skeleton selection races for the German team for the 2017-2018 World Cup are scheduled to take place in Winterberg, Königssee and Altenberg in October.
