LS Kitami will represent Japan in the women’s curling event at next year's Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang after claiming a third victory over Chubu Electric Power in a domestic qualifying play-off.

Kitami came into the last day of the best-of-five series with a 2-1 advantage over the current national champions and secured the overall win with a 9-5 success in front of a home crowd at the Advics Tokoro Curling Hall.

Skip Satsuki Fujisawa led Kitami’s attack by registering three points with a precise shot in the opening end.

"I’m very happy to win with my team-mates here at Tokoro," she told Kyodo News.

"My team-mates and people around me believed in me more than I did in myself.

"I hope to grow in time for the Olympics."

LS Kitami, the runners-up representing Japan at last year’s World Championships in Saskatchewan in Canada, will compete in the Olympics for the first time.

Their qualification means Japan will be represented in both the men’s and women’s events at the Winter Olympics for the first time since the country played host in Nagano in 1998.

SC Karuizawa have already secured a spot in the men’s competition.

Curling competition is due to place throughout Pyeongchang 2018 Games, scheduled to be held from February 9 to 25.

It will take place at the Gangneung Curling Centre.

In each of the men's and women's competitions, 10 nations will participate.
