Brazil cruised past hosts Japan today to seal a fourth successive title at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Grand Champions Cup in Osaka.

The South American giants were far too strong for their opponents in triumphing 25-17, 25-15, 25-22 at the Municipal Central Gymnasium.

It means they finished top of the pile in the round-robin format after four wins from five matches.

Brazil have now won the past four editions of the quadrennial event in a winning streak dating back to 2005.

They have now won five of the seven events in total with only Italy, in 1993, and Cuba, in 2001, having broken their dominance.

Italy were the only team to beat Brazil at this year's event but were left ruing a defeat to Iran.

They won their final match 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 29-27 today over United States.

Iran - who also only lost once, to Brazil - sealed third place by edging France in thrilling fashion: 38-36, 25-23, 22-25, 25-27, 15-11.

It marked an improvement on their fourth place finish at last year's event.

The event featured six teams of which four were continental champions.

They were joined by hosts Japan and Italy, who are playing as the FIVB's wildcard.

All three of the final rounds are taking place in Osaka after the first two were played in Nagoya.
