An eight-person Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspection team has arrived in Kenya to assess whether the country is able to host next year's African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The delegation, led by CAF second vice-president and FIFA Council member Constant Omari, is due to conduct their inspection until Sunday (September 17).

The previous two planned visits were postponed.

The inspection team will scrutinise the country's preparations for the event before delivering a report to the CAF Executive Committee at their meeting in Accra in Ghana on September 23.

A decision will then be taken over Kenya's hosting of the event, the second-tier competition behind the Africa Cup of Nations, amid concerns over infrastructure.

Omari recently visited Kenya to inspect their progress before it was cancelled due to political unrest in the country.

A general election was held last month but the results were overturned by the Supreme Court following irregularities in the counting up of the votes.

The country will take to the polls for a re-run on October 8.

The political situation has added to the uncertainty surrounding Kenya's capability of staging the biennial CHAN event.

The Government need to provide funding in the region of $46 million (£35 million/€38 million) in order for the country to host the competition.

"We don't foresee any challenges because the work has already began and the stadiums are now with the contractors," said Football Kenya Federation chief executive Robert Muthomi.

"No activities will be allowed inside the venues so the timelines we are working with remain the same."

Kenyan Government officials have insisted the tournament, due to be held from January 12 to February 14, will take place as planned.

Venues in Nairobi, Kasarani, Mombasa and Meru are scheduled to be used at the competition.

The tournament differs from the higher-level Africa Cup of Nations as only players who represent clubs on the continent are allowed to take part.
