United States Ski and Snowboard (USSA) has agreed a partnership with Parents Empowered - a media and education campaign which aims to prevent and reduce underage drinking in Utah.

The deal has been struck as both organisations "recognise the important role parents and guardians play in educating their athletes and kids about the dangers of underage drinking and creating an alcohol-free environment".

The governing body will share video messages via television and social media as part of the link-up.

These will feature athletes speaking about the dangers of underage drinking.

Newspaper and billboard message will also target parents, reminding them to stay vigilant to keep alcohol away from children.

Educational resources created by Parents Empowered will be shared among the skiing membership.

The governing body is based in Utah, at the Park City resort used for the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Olympics.

The state's Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox joined USSA chief executive Tiger Shaw, USSA executive vice president of athletics Luke Bodensteiner and Park City Mayor Jack Thomas to help launch the partnership.

"We are proud to support Utah's efforts to safeguard all youth from the devastating effects of underage drinking," said Bodensteiner.

"It is clear that today's youth face many difficult challenges; if we can play a part in helping these kids reach their full potential, that is our goal and part of our mission.

"We take the same approach with our teams, ensuring that they're given all the information and tools they need to perform and be best in the world."

The partnership comes after the USSA announced High West Distillery as its new "spirit sponsor" last month.
