Azerbaijan's Farid Gayibov and Slovenia's Edvard Kolar have been named as the candidates in the running for the Presidency of the European Union of Gymnastics (UEG).

The duo will be competing to replace Frenchman Georges Guelzec, who is standing down of his own accord after serving eight years in the role.

Guelzec has held the position since 2009, when he succeeded Greece's Dimitrios Dimitropoulos.

He also ran for the International Gymnastics Federation Presidency in October but was blown away by Japan's Morinari Watanabe, who sealed victory with 100 of the 119 votes.

The deadline for the presentation of candidates was September 1 and the UEG’s Executive Committee has now approved the final list.

Gayibov is currently vice-president of the UEG and secretary general of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation.

Kolar has served as secretary general of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia since 2015.

He used to coach Mitja Petkovšek, a two-time parallel bars world champion, before becoming chief executive and secretary general of the Slovenian Gymnastics Federation.

There are six candidates in the running for three vice-president positions.

Current incumbents Ruedi Hediger of Switzerland and Sweden's Malin Eggertz Forsmark are both seeking re-election.

Michel Boutard of France, Paolo Frising of Luxembourg, Iordan Iovtchev of Bulgaria and Greece's Athanasios Vasileiadis are the other four candidates.

On December 2, the 50 Member Federations of the UEG will have the opportunity to vote at the organisation's 27th Congress in Croatian city Split.
