Hosts Greece and Russia will meet in the final of the World Women's Junior Water Polo World Championships in Volos after winning their respective last four encounters today.

The Greeks continued their sublime run at the National Swimming Pool by defeating The Netherlands 7-6 in a thrilling semi-final.

It follows yesterday's shock win over the United States, the reigning champions and winners of the last two editions of this event.

Awaiting Greece in tomorrow's final will be Russia.

They defeated Spain, the 2013 and 2015 silver medallists, 9-6 this evening to move one win away from the title.

Elsewhere, Hungary will meet the US for the fifth place tomorrow while Italy and Canada will battle for seventh.

China secured ninth by beating Australia 12-11 today, while New Zealand wrapped up 11th by blowing away Serbia 11-4.

The competition is due to conclude with the medal matches tomorrow.

It is the third time in a row that the Greek port city of Volos has hosted the tournament after it also welcomed the 2013 and 2015 editions.
