Alexander Stoeckl has extended his contract as head coach of the Norwegian ski jumping team, which will see him remain in charge until after the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Stoeckl's previous contract was due to expire at the end of the upcoming campaign.

The 43-year-old Austrian has led the Norwegian team since 2011 and guided the country to a bronze medal at Sochi 2014, where Anders Bardal finished third in the men's individual normal hill.

"I had a long conversation with the sporting director," Stoeckl told Aftenposten.

"There I realised that the ski jumping committee wanted me to continue.

"I have the feeling that we have built a great team of athletes and coaches.

"We have a lot of experience and there has been a continuous development.

"We are on the right track, but we are not there yet."

Stoeckl is set to lead a seven-strong squad of athletes in the upcoming International Ski Federation Ski Jumping World Cup season.

The selection includes six men, with Maren Lundby selected as the sole woman.

Daniel Andre Tande, Robert Johansson, Johann Andre Forfang, Anders Fannemel, Andreas Stjernen and Kenneth Gangnes have also been chosen for the men’s team.

The athletes will be hoping to impress throughout the World Cup season as the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics draw closer.

Tande was the star of the men’s team last season, as he secured a third place finish in the overall World Cup.
