Top seed Hsu Jen-hao eased through to the second round of the Badminton World Federation Vietnam Open as the main men's draw began today in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Chinese Taipei player defeated India's K. Ajay Kumar 21-9, 21-15 in the first round at the Nguyen Du Stadium.

Hsu is playing at the tournament, a Grand Prix Gold level event, after being part of the mixed team gold medallists at his home Summer Universiade in Taipei last month.

The biggest casualty on day one was Thailand's fourth seed Zulfadli Zulkiffli, who was knocked out by another Taiwanese player in Lin Chia-hsuan.

Lin came through 21-18, 21-12.
