Chile’s Daniel Muñoz has been confirmed as the President of South American University Sports Confederation (COSUD).

COSUD, a continental body, held their Assembly at the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade Athletes’ Village here.

The Assembly saw Muñoz be confirmed as the President of the organisation, who are one of three sub-divisions of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) America.

FISU America President Alim Maluf Neto, who was present at the Assembly, expressed his view that Muñoz would help to grow university sports.

He praised the National University Sports Federation of Chile official, following the election.

“I am sure that Daniel Muñoz and the whole Executive Committee will continue motivating the growth that comes through university sports in the region,” he said.

Brazilian Confederation of University Sports official Lusimar Santos was confirmed as the COSUD vice-president, extending his tenure in the post.

Martin Castro of the Sports Federation University of Peru will continue as the general secretary.

Argentina’s Adrián Verdini and Francisco Sandoval of Colombia were also appointed at key roles at the organisation.

Verdini, an Argentine University Sports Federation official, will serve as the COSUD treasurer.

The Colombian Association of Universities’ Sandoval will take up the post as spokesperson.

The meeting also saw the officials discuss key items concerning the organisation’s management.

They spoke about the organisation of different international competitions, which would take place in a variety of sports and countries.

FISU America also oversee the North America and the University Sports Organisation of Central America and the Caribbean.
