Hosts The Netherlands staged a stirring comeback to beat Belgium 4-2 and win the men's title at the EuroHockey Championships in Amsterdam.

The Dutch looked to be heading for defeat at the Wagener Stadium as the Belgians opened up a 2-0 lead.

But, cheered on by a partisan crowd, the home side struck four times after half-time to defend the title they also claimed in 2015 in London.

They have now won the European crown five times in all with the win today adding to the success of the women's side yesterday, who also beat Belgium in their final, 3-0.

Belgium, who have never won the European Championships, went in front in the first quarter when Tom Boon rifled home from a penalty corner.

A second arrived when Cédric Charlier flicked in from close range to put the Belgians in command.

The Dutch began their fightback with Robbert Kemperman's strike and Mirco Pruyser levelled from a penalty corner.

In the fourth quarter, another penalty corner proved Belgium's downfall as Mink van der Weerden smashed home.

With 17 seconds to go, Pruyser bagged his second to put the result beyond all doubt.

In the battle for third place, England beat Germany 4-2.

This meant an identical podium to the women's tournament.
