Liam Heath finally claimed an International Canoe Federation (ICF) World Championships gold medal today to add to his Olympic and European titles in the K1 200 metres event in Račice.

The Briton, who only switched his priority from the K2 to the K1 event last season, produced another assured performance on the last day of competition in the Czech village.

He made the fastest start before opening clear water to win in 33.73 seconds.

Bence Horvath of Hungary finished second in 34.070 as Aleksejs Rumjancevs of Latvia crossed in 34.439 for bronze.

"It is nice when you cross the line and you know you have won it, which means you have had a good race in the 200 if you can do that," said Heath.

"To be Olympic Champion, European champion and now world champion as well as holding the world's fastest time in one year is incredible.

"It ticks every single box I wanted to achieve this year."

France's Olympic silver medallist Maxime Beaumont finished a disappointing fifth in 34.660.

Australia also claimed a first-ever world title in the men's K4 1,000m today.

Kenny Wallace, Jordan Wood, Riley Fitzsimmons and Murray Stewart combined for a winning time of 2:50.576.

Hungary took silver, in 2:50.931, while Germany settled for bronze in 2:53.146.

New Zealand's Lisa Carrington enjoyed another victory elsewhere today.

She won the women's K1 200m in 38.433 to defeat Emma Aastrand Jorgensen of Denmark, second in 38.996, and Spela Janic Ponomarenko of Slovenia, third in 39.564.

It came in a mixed Championships in which Carrington won the K2 500m title alongside Caitlin Ryan but was forced to settle for second place in the K1 500m final.

Laurence Vincent-Lapointe also added the women's C1 200m to her C2 victory yesterday alongside Katie Vincent.

The Canadian clocked 45.478 to win the solo title in front of Russia's Olesia Romasenko, in 46.136.

Kincső Takács claimed another Hungarian medal with bronze in 47.178.
