They beat Belgium 3-0 in the final in a match that proved one battle too many for their vanquished opponents. 

Carlien Dirkse van den Heuvel and Kelly Jonker each finished off wonderful team goals to end the game as a serious contest.

Ireen van den Assem then struck late to add some gloss in front of a 10,000 strong crowd. 

It marked The Netherlands' second successive triumph at the continental event and ninth overall in 13 editions.

"This is a new group, we started a few new things and I am proud of the girls," said coach Alyson Annan.

"The way they performed is the game we want to play, very attacking and in control of the game. 

"In front of 10,000 people, I am proud."

Belgium will still be happy with a first ever women's EuroHockey podium finish as they improved on fourth place in 2013.

An English side containing many survivors from the Great Britain team which won Olympic gold last year beat Germany 2-0 to secure bronze.

Goals from Hannah Martin and Alex Danson proved the difference between the two sides.

It marked the first time Germany had not finished in the top three since their first appearance in 1991.

The Netherlands will lock horns with Belgium again in the men's final tomorrow.
