Germany’s top seed Dimitrij Ovtcharov earned a place in tomorrow’s the International Table Tennis Federation Bulgaria Open final after recovering from a 3-1 deficit against third seed Quadri Aruna of Nigeria.

Having secured a victory in seven games, 11-6, 9-11, 8-11, 8-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-6, Ovtcharov will now meet Japan’s second seed Kenta Matsudaira, who beat qualifier and fellow countryman Kenta Tazoe 11-7, 11-4, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10.

Earlier in the day, Ovtcharov had won his quarter-final against Japan’s Mizuki Oikawa, who had to battle through injury in losing 11-6, 11-0, 11-0, 11-0.

Aruna had defeated Asuka Machi of Japan 11-3, 6-11, 11-3, 12-10, 11-6.

Tazoe had reached the semi-finals at the expense of fellow Japanese Kenji Matsudaira in a marathon seven-gamer, losing a three-game lead before winning the decider 12-10.

The fourth men’s quarter-final saw Kenta Matsudaiara, Kenji’s brother, beat Jin Ueda 11-8, 7-11, 11-6, 11-2, 11-5.

The women’s final in the city of Panagyurishte has also gone to form, as it will feature the Japanese number one and two seeds, Kasumi Ishikawa and Mima Ito respectively.

Ishikawa required six games to defeat compatriot Miyu Kato, eventually winning 14-16, 11-8, 11-1, 4-11, 11-5, 13-11.

Ito defeated fourth seed Honako Hashimoto, also from Japan, 11-3, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8.

The women’s title had long been destined for Japan, who provided all of the last 16 players left in the competition.

Ishikawa had defeated Asuka Sasao 11-7, 11-9, 14-12, 11-9 in her quarter-final.

At the same stage, Ito had overwhelmed Sakura Mori 11-5, 11-3, 11-2, 11-1.

Hashimoto had advanced with a win over five games against Hina Hayata, 11-6, 13-11, 11-8, 7-11, 16-14, while Kato had won her quarter-final against Htomi Sato 12-10, 10-12, 11-1, 11-9, 11-7.
