Russia’s women’s 4x100 metre surface relay team set a new record today as they won gold at the World Underwater Federation World Junior Finswimming Championships in Tomsk.

The quartet completed the race in front of a home crowd at the Aquatics Centre Zvezdniy in a time of 2min 41.90sec, beating the previous world junior record by 1.21 seconds.

They finished 3.11 seconds ahead of the Ukrainian team, while the bronze medal was won by South Korea.

Russia also experienced success on the final day of action at the competition in the men’s 4x100m surface relay.

Silver went to South Korea while Ukraine claimed the bronze medal.

There was also a gold won by a Ukrainian swimmer today as Oleksii Zakharov topped the men’s 800m surface race in a time of 6:26.97.

Turkey’s Muhammad Emin Bay finished second in front of Russian Nikita Borodin.

In the women’s 800m surface contest, Germany’s Johanna Schikora won gold.

She completed the final in 7:01.40, a full 7.20 ahead of Turkey’s Ceren Yesilbas.

Another German team member, Nele Rudolf, won the bronze medal.
