Mario Mola and Flora Duffy will be seeking second wins on Canadian soil in as many weeks when they tackle the Montreal leg of the World Triathlon Series (WTS).

The world’s best triathletes are heading to the city, which is hosting a WTS event for the first time, with the women’s race taking place tomorrow before the men head out on Sunday (August 6).

Both races will see the athletes test themselves out over a 1,500 metre swimming course in the Jacques-Cartier Basin in the Old Port of Montreal before heading into the 40 kilometre cycling stage.

They will round proceedings off with a 10km run, with the triathletes doing four laps of a course around the streets of the city.

Another Canadian city, Edmonton, hosted the sixth WTS leg of the season and Bermuda’s Duffy claiming victory in the women’s race, her fourth of the season.

She sits eight points ahead of the United States’ Katie Zaferes in the overall standings and Duffy’s confidence should be boosted by the fact she won in Montreal last year when the city hosted a World Cup event.

The rest of the current top five in the women’s standings – Kristen Kasper of the US, Australia’s Ashleigh Gentle and New Zealander Andrea Hewitt - are also set to race tomorrow.

Mola claimed the men’s spoils in Edmonton and heads the men’s standings by 492 points over his fellow Spaniard Fernando Alarza.

They will both be in Montreal alongside compatriot Javier Gomez Noya, currently third in the WTS standings.

Double Olympic medallist Jonathan Brownlee of Great Britain is also on the start list for the race.
