Hosts Chinese Taipei gained some revenge on the United States for their defeat in the 2015 final with an emphatic 16-2 win as the super round started in the World Baseball Softball Confederation Under-12 World Cup.

Their haul at the Tainan Municipal Stadium included five home runs as they ended up cruising to victory today.

Proceedings were level after both sides had played two innings before Chinese Taipei, who lost the final two years ago 7-2 at the same stadium, edged ahead with a single score in the third.

The floodgates then well and truly opened in the fourth as the home team added seven to their tally, putting the score to 10-2.

A shell-shocked US team, who won all five of their group games, could not respond and a further six runs in the next inning sealed victory for Chinese Taipei, with Yang Yi-Cheng top scoring for them with three.

Japan also started their super round campaign successfully after playing their final group match earlier in the day.

The Asian side thrashed Brazil 15-0 to grab top spot in Group A.

They followed this up with a second win as they saw off Nicaragua 10-0 in the super round.

Mexico claimed victory in today’s other super round clash, beating South Korea 7-2.
