Alfie Hewett cruised through an all-British encounter today at the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships in Nottingham without dropping a game.

This year’s French Open men’s singles champion and Rio 2016 Paralympics silver medallist was too strong for Ruairi Logan as he came through the second round tie 6-0, 6-0 at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

He will now meet Belgium’s Joachim Gerard, who defeated Dutch player Tom Egberink 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 in the quarter-finals.

Fellow Briton Gordon Reid, the Rio 2016 men’s singles gold medallist, also progressed with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Brazilian Daniel Rodrigues and will next meet Frenchman Nicolas Peifer.

Top seed Gustavo Fernandez has also reached the quarter-finals after the Argentine defeated South Africa’s Evans Maripa 7-5, 6-2.

He next faces Japanese eighth seed Shingo Kunieda while the last quarter-final sees France’s Stephane Houdet and Stefan Olsson of Sweden play each other.

In the women’s singles, the top four seeds all made it to the semi-finals.

Rio 2016 bronze medallist Yui Kamiji of Japan defeated Colombia’s Angelica Bernal 6-3, 6-0.

Her semi-final opponent will be The Netherlands’ Marjolein Buis after she won 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 against Dana Mathewson of the United States.

Another Dutch player also reached the last four as Diede De Groot thrashed Japan’s Saki Takamuro 6-0, 6-1.

Sabine Ellerbrock of Germany completed the semi-final line-up courtesy of her 6-1, 7-6 victory over Britain’s Lucy Shuker.
