Olympic bronze medallist Alexis Raynaud claimed the men’s 300 metres rifle three positions title at the European Shooting Championships in Baku today.

The Frenchman, who came third in the men’s 50m rifle three positions event at last year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, registered a winning total of 1,167 points in windy conditions at the Olympic Shooting Range in Azerbaijan’s capital city.

Hungary’s Istvan Peni was the silver medallist with 1,163, followed by team-mate Peter Sidi with 1,161.

"The conditions have been all the time very challenging," Raynaud said.

"I like to shoot 300m but my best discipline is 50m rifle three positions.

"I have been shooting quite a lot here at the range and conditions have become more familiar, so you do not need so much consulting.

"Just wait for the right moment and shoot."

Switzerland’s Jan Lochbihler, the winner of yesterday’s men's 300m rifle prone event, came fourth with 1,158.

Raynard also helped France come out on top in the team competition with 3,472.

Valerian Sauveplane and Cyril Graff completed the winning trio.

Switzerland were the silver medallists with 3,461, while Austria took bronze with 3,458.

Today’s other gold medallist was Turkey’s Yusuf Dikec, who won the men’s 25m centre fire pistol event with 587 points.

Germany’s Christian Reitz was the runner-up with 582, while Estonia’s Peeter Olesk completed the top three with 580.

"The weather was not so easy today, but I handled it," Dikec, the 2014 world champion in the event, said.

"It didn’t disturb me a lot.

"I think that I’m very strong in the 25m event."

The team competition was won by Ukraine, whose trio consisted of Pavlo Korostylov, Roman Bondaruk and Volodymyr Pasternak.

They amassed a score of 1,732 with Germany second on 1,724 and France third with 1,714.

Action in Baku is due to continue tomorrow.
