Israeli Government official Konstantin Razvozov has vowed to support the inclusion of sambo at the 2021 Maccabiah Games.
The two-time European judo silver medallist made the assertion with this year’s edition of the multi-sport event concluding on July 17.
A record 10,000 athletes took part in the 20th edition of the Maccabiah Games in Jerusalem.
The multi-sport event, often referred to as the "Jewish Olympics", featured 80 countries.
Sambo was not featured as part of the Games, but a world tournament was arranged to take place during their duration.
The competition, organised by the International Sambo Federation (FIAS), featured exhibition fights as they sought to promote the sport.
Israel's national team were announced as the winners of the tournament, with Russia finishing in second position.
A world team, featuring athletes from Argentina, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Latvia, Lithuania and the United States, finished in third.
Yuri Trufanov, a well-known sambo coach, held an exhibition performance of sambo during the tournament.
He was joined by two-time sambo world champion Alice Schlesinger, who competes for Britain in judo.
FIAS officials also laid wreathes at a memorial in Netanya, prior to competition beginning, with the site dedicated to fallen heroes.
