Hosts Chinese Taipei began the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Under-12 Baseball World Cup with a 10-0 victory against Brazil.

The comfortable Group A win followed the Opening Ceremony of the boys' tournament at the Tainan Municipal Stadium.

It was all over after five innings as all 12-sides at the tournament played their opening group matches.

There were also wins for Japan and Mexico in Group A.

The former defeated the Czech Republic 13-0, with Reiji Toi's grand-slam home run a highlight.

Mexico won 25-0 against South Africa.

In Group B, defending champions United States opened with a 16-0 success against Australia.

Panama edged South Korea 1-0 and Nicaragua defeated Germany 17-2 in the only match which saw runs for both sides.

Despite the young age of the players, the results in Tainan will count towards the overall WBSC rankings.

The final will be played on August 6, with Peanuts character Snoopy serving as the tournament's mascot.
